These types of dentures are referred to as overdentures, they are created using CAD/CAM technology and can be removed by the patient. Once the bar is implanted, the denture is constructed with internal attachments and engaged to the bar for aesthetic and functional results.
An Implant Supported Prosthesis derives its entire support from dental implants. This type of restoration may be fixed (screw retained) or removable (attachment retained). Only a clinician can remove a screw retained implant supported overdenture, compared to an implant-supported attachment retained (fixed-detachable prosthesis) that can be removed by the patient or clinician. Fixed-detachable implant prosthetics sometimes need to have a mesiostructure such as cast metal framework over the bar to reinforce acrylic resin.
